Belated happy new year as I took an extended break this winter! Feeling mentally ready to get stuck back into projects (though physically knackered as I did a 2hr dance workshop yesterday that was way above the level I expected 😅)

Should be taken with caution as LFS sample size is much lower than before, but had a quick look at reasons for '1 in 8 young people inactive' news stats. Most common was long term disabled who did not want a job, followed by those looking after family/home who don't want a job. (1/2)

Low-to-middle income households in the UK have lower incomes than their European counterparts.

Despite a similar GDP per capita, typical households in the UK are 9% poorer than in France, and our low-income households are 27% poorer.

Every worker deserves a wage that covers their needs. But 45% of Scotland's hospitality workers didn't get the real Living Wage in 2023. This blog from our Laura Robertson and @chirstyresearch.bsky.social of @fraserofallander.bsky.social points a way forward.
