What happens when you downzone?

Our new open-access research paper in @findingspress.org investigates effects of decades of downzoning in Chicago.

Findings:
—Downzoned areas added 1/7th of the new units as comparable non-downzoned areas;
—Downzoned areas became more white & were more expensive.

Not an exaggeration to say this this is a moment that will define what women’s club soccer is in America for the foreseeable future. Do they decide to loosen spending restrictions remain a global top league? Or will they stay restrictive and become MLS in the women’s game?
🇺🇸 Sources: Trinity Rodman could be playing final home game for Washington Spirit today in NWSL semifinal

- Rodman is out of contract in winter
- Several clubs abroad pushing hard
- Negotiating directly with NWSL but things not looking good

It shouldn’t be forgotten that a big piece of Mamdani’s campaign was simply “cities are cool and lots of people enjoy living in them” which in and of itself dismantles alot of rightwing talking points

@aoc.bsky.social says of Mamdani victory: "A lot of people...are willing to talk about party unity when it serves them, but not party unity when it serves everybody."

"We have a future to fight for, and we're either going to do that together or you're going to be left behind."

Dowd messes up on the first goal and now he’s afraid to come out of his goal to let in the second. Absolute disaster goalkeeping ending the Fire’s season.

I remember when I first moved to Chicago from the suburbs. I was driving every day to North Lawndale for work. It was a pain and a stressful drive. I still remember the first day I chose to take the pink line instead and that changed my life forever. It really was ‘L’ove at first ride!
Transit is freedom. Transit makes Chicago great. It is for everyone and it is beautiful. 32 years ago today I boarded at this spot on the Pulaski Orange Line platform with my legally blind mom to help her learn her new, faster way to work on its first weekday. 'L'ove at first ride.
