actually the opposite: there are a whole bunch of sports (NFL, golf, tennis, etc.) where people were willing to live with some degree of unfairness within an overall framework of norms promoting "fair play"

But once the (technical) unfairness was revealed for all to see, these norms collapsed.
one theory i have about american society is that NFL instant replay eroded the societal norm against frivolous litigiousness, especially among conservatives, as football broadcasts transformed suddenly into about 40% examining every play to see if there was a technicality they could be overturned on
Replay in sports has really turned me against the “The only thing that matters is getting the calls right” viewpoint. It’s less of an issue in baseball, but it’s a real entertainment killer in football and basketball (and still leads to some really dumb situations in baseball)
