The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes.

She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

I really wish we could shift the conversation to the positives that immigration brings to our country.
Healthcare would be just one industry that would collapse without it.

“I would gently point out to Nigel Farage that before we left the EU we had a returns agreement with every country in the EU. He told the country it would make no difference if we left. He was wrong about that. These are Farage boats in many senses coming across the channel” 👏

NEW: We filed a brief in support of a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s unprecedented attacks on academic freedom at Columbia University.

The First Amendment doesn't allow the president to force a university to censor its teaching, research, and faculty to align with his ideology.

We're the professionals, though. In these interactions, it is up to us to manage the conversation. The vast majority of parents will reciprocate.

This has been the problem since 2010 unfortunately.

Also because it's easier to think of ways to win an election than it is to deal with any of the actual problems.

Retrospective removal of Indefinite Leave to Remain from "hundreds of thousands of people" in the Reform plans is obscene.

They talk about "preventing disruption to businesses" but have no regard for what this means for the people themselves, their families and communities which will be torn apart.
Screenshot from The Times which reads: "Zia Yusuf, Reform’s policy chief, said that his party’s changes would lead to “hundreds of thousands of people having to apply [for] and ultimately losing their settled status in the UK” on a staggered basis to prevent disruption to businesses.

Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Yusuf said: “Many of those who will lose their leave to remain are entirely dependent on the welfare state and will leave voluntarily upon losing access to benefits. Those that don’t will be subject to immigration enforcement as part of our mass deportation programme.”

I wonder what sales of these look like this week?

I remember Skrewdriver and their followers from the early 90's.
I thought we had put this crap behind us as a country. Unfortunately, not.

The same was said when calculators were introduced. It will become part of established practice soon enough.

A year down the line and England still doesn't have a comprehensive CPD offer for #science teachers.
#STEM teachers are harder to recruit, harder to retain and we know high quality, subject specific CPD helps.
So why is nothing happening?
chrishillidge.bsky.social
We only recruited 30% of the Physics teachers we needed last year and we struggle to keep the ones we have in the profession.
Good CPD is shown to keep #STEM teachers in the job.
For a £2.7m saving, this just doesn't make sense.

Pleased to announce that the TCAT bid for Turing funding was successful, and we will be taking 45 #STEM students to #SouthAfrica for #RealWorld experience of working in this incredible region. #Research and #Ethical #EcoTourism.

Thank you to Flooglebinder for an amazing weekend in West Wales. The coastal fieldwork session by @theislandgeogr.bsky.social was worth the long drive on its own - great ideas to integrate into our Watchet & Lyme Regis days. Also loved visiting www.thebugfarm.co.uk - delicious bug burgers!
Flooglebinder staff on the coast in West Wales Chloe - the island geographer - working on fieldwork ideas with our group. Bug burgers & pakora. Catherine holding a hissing cockroach!

I agree with lots of this, but London very much is 'distinct from the rest of the UK'.
The level of investment makes it so.
Come to most town's high streets, and you will see a stark difference.
This has nothing to do with immigration. It is chronic underfunding & mismanagement over decades.
chrishillidge.bsky.social
This could apply to all three countries currently engaged in the conflict?

The things they have changed are the things that most effective schools do routinely.
How is their approach any different? And doesn't this suggest that the general approach taken by most schools was the right one to start with?

Every machine in a Hospital that diagnoses your body without cutting you open is based on a principle of Physics, discovered by a Physicist who had no interest in Medicine.

If you think the world doesn’t need Basic Science, or that somehow Science has failed you, think again.
