California native plant enthusiast and gardener. Bird lover. Aspiring urban farmer. I like to go paddling in my kayak. Why am I a Padres fan? He/him/his
This weekend while it was snowing elsewhere I planted 2 papaya, a mango, a pineapple guava, a pink guava, two figs, a cherry of the Rio Grande and 10 ice cream bean trees. I didn’t get to plant my apricot bare root or avocado. Next weekend. 🌱 #gardening

Just a PSA for San Diego people, Armstrong Garden Centers have amazing deals on bare root fruit trees this weekend. $22.99 for a few different low chill apples, peaches, nectarines, an apple, an apricot and maybe a couple other things. I picked up a Blenheim apricot.

RIP disgusting white guava

Saturday as I was pruning and stripping leaves from my deciduous fruit trees I thought about how weird it would be to not buy a single bare root fruit tree this year. By Sunday morning I had removed a guava and decided to swap it out for a standard Santa Rosa plum.

Ok San Diego mammal and poor-quality video experts. Who can tell me what I’m looking at in this nighttime video one of my cameras picked up last night. Raccoon without a tail maybe?

Our cats are 3 now and we put up a fake tree with just lights and a garland. Things were going surprisingly great until this morning.

This is the most recent Instagram image posted by a local Southern California native plant grower and this sucks so much and really bums me out.

They were purchased by someone with private equity ties a few years ago and I guess this was the inevitable outcome.
