Thanks to The Line for running this piece I wrote. I look at how partisans in Canada disagree on where it is important for emission reductions to take place.

A difficult topic to broach in today's public opinion environment!

Climate policy debates on bluesky hit differently
Okay -- my turn now.
Max makes some excellent points here, so I’ll respond as much as I can before my dinner plans call me away (more tomorrow). Where I think we agree is on the importance of policy durability.

It’s been frustrating as a journalist, and a member of the public, to watch as publicly available data on the health-care system has dwindled over the years.

The auditor general now says the Alberta government is changing internal metrics and selectively using data to hide problems:

These are solar water heaters and not photovoltaics systems that we commonly refer to as solar panels today.
In 1979, Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the White House. In 1986, Ronald Reagan tore them down along w/Carter’s clean energy funding.

This sums up the difference between the two men & political parties. Investing in solutions for the future vs canceling progress to score political points.

I agree with the takes that $300B climate finance annually by 2035, from rich countries disproportionately responsible for climate change to poorer ones disproportionately impacted, isn’t nearly enough. But I’ll also be pleasantly surprised if we’re on track for that target in the coming years.

Imagine the Ontario election happens before the federal and ONDP place definitively 2nd.

That sets up a far stronger foundation for associating NDP as the alternative. And Ontario is so important.

Of course the main battle is Trudeau vs Poilievre but the Singh vs Ford B-plot is underrated
