Since a bunch of folks have asked, I’m afraid I won’t be doing a BATOBER this year.
Between deadlines and a back injury that set me back on commissions, I just wouldn’t feel right taking the time to do Batober if it meant putting them farther behind.

"Superman at War" from 1993's Superman Gallery by Jerry Ordway @jerryordway.bsky.social.

I believe it was originally published as a 1990 28"x22" poster.
In a ravaged European village, a majestic Superman appears and pushes a German Panzer tank from its treads and hurls it off the ground while German soldiers attempt to bring the man of steel down by shooting at him with their rifles.

The bullets bounce off his uniform.

Carmine Infantino and Dick Giordano covered Supergirl 17 (1984).
Supergirl wrecks a dude in a car, just by standing in its path.

Also, callout to the upcoming Supergirl motion picture.

The world is in danger from a giant monster named BEM. A dream reveals the only one who can save the world is Detective Castle Radium.

Maggie, a mechanic, meets one of her idols, then later she & Hopey try to get their hands on occult books.

...these and other tales...

Love & Rockets #1 (1982)
A spotlight shines on five unusual women standing in front of a yellow colored wall.

On the wall, two blots of a blood red liquid drip towards the ground.

Love & Rockets #1 (Fall 1982) by Gilberto (Gilbert) & Jaime Hernandez; Los Bros. Hernandez. Logo design by Todd Klein.

Today is the birthday of artist Artist Charles Paris (Sept. 25, 1911-March 19, 1994). Most known to comic fans for his work as a prolific inker for DC from the 1940s through the mid-1960s, particularly on the Batman titles.

Who's Who editor Robert Greenberger was a fan of Love and Rockets and asked Jaime Hernandez @xaimeh.bsky.social if he was interested in drawing something for DC's Who's Who.

Jamie said yes he'd like to draw Legionnaires.

Thus, comic fans were privileged to get these two pieces.
Phantom Girl pinup; Jaime went with the 70s Dave Cockrum designed costume with white mid-riff cutouts and classic bell bottom/flared pants and sleeves.

Shrinking Violet pinup; mid-eighties Keith Giffen design of simple green skirt with black collar, gloves, belt and boots.

DC's Who's Who #18 (Phantom Girl) & #21 (Shrinking Violet) from 1986.

I’m pretty sure @markwaid.bsky.social and @chrissamnee.bsky.social are doing their own version of this story in Batman & Robin: Year One. 👀
