It's not only that it gets dark so much earlier but also that my night vision got the vapours in my late 40s and has never really recovered.

The point of Remembrance Day is to look unflinchingly at the devastation war leaves behind. To acknowledge the sheer scale of what we lost: the lives, the potential, the chance to build something better.
