Hey! I wrote this!

2019's SPIRAL is so fantastic and worth revisiting especially if it's been a minute.
“With its social consciousness on its sleeve, SPIRAL works hard to be a film with something to say; and it is, literally begging viewers to heed its warnings.” Here’s @xtinemakepeace.bsky.social on the brutal, brutal Shudder release you might have missed.
'Spiral' Is a Warning That Bleeds Through the Screen
Christine Makepeace explains why Kurtis David Harder's 'Spiral' has only increased in urgency since its release.

I will try to acquire one for you. I had 2 days like that earlier this Fall when they were breaking apart a building's foundation nearby. I wish I had thought to get an MRI.

What’s sad is you can see the work continuously rejecting that ending. Constantly showing this was not what the show needed to be. Rejecting basically every godawful idea the creators had. (It’s not just how they fumble the mom.) And it winds up feeling stubborn.

Up today is our belated tribute episode to Diane Keaton where, to quote @jamesdavidpatrick.bsky.social's intro, I spend the entire 77 minutes "fangirling" over one of my on-screen crushes. Also, we talk about TOWN & COUNTRY which is terrible. Really terrible.

Cruel Gun Story (1964)

Hardboiled Japanese heist flick in which a newly released convict is recruited by the mob to steal the takings from a racetrack. Naturally, everything goes to shit. Recommended for fans of Kubrick's THE KILLING.

Directed by Takumi Furukawa

Starring Joe Shishido
