The flip side of this coin is that the pursuit of quick "impact" risks allocating scarce resources to unworthy bandwagons.

Are there complementray critiques to this, about the *way* in which 'superstar' sectors are promoted?
Eg, academic research is key for any life sciences strategy in the UK, but the abandonment of HE institutions to market forces is hugely damaging, both to scientific ambition and equitable growth.

I generally do not get Friston's need to package all self inference into a single architecture.
Perhaps that's why I liked his statement of the strong position for architectural homology as a deal-breaker for consciousness (although he doesn't seem to commit to it).
