I dream of foraging my own mushrooms
I am convinced I will die trying to walk across the Metra tracks because they refuse to clean the ice on the sidewalk.
Driving down my alley, the ice is so thick and so deeply tracked that it's like driving one of those cars in the Tomorrow Speedway at Disney World: you have the illusion of steering but you're only going where the track is.
Chicago is a winter city & I think residents pride themselves in navigating the brutal winters. As much as the cold and winter is part of our identity, the city itself doesn’t manage winter & snow well. Right now, our sidewalks are intermittently icy w/ many alleys looking like ice rinks.

I just finished this shawl for the second time. I am knitting it as a favor for a friend whose mother in law passed before she could make it.

I say finished for a second time because the first time it was 2.5 feet too long and I had to literally cut that part off to make it the correct size.

I am in my early 40s. In February, I went back to school to get my Masters in Data Analytics. I originally graduated with a degree in Journalism, so this means I’m seeing math I haven’t seen since the 1900s.

This is the hardest thing I have ever done, and I am so happy I am doing it.
i wrote this post in july two years ago when blue sky had around 200,000 total users and i thought i would ask again

I watched With Honors for the first time in many many years. The scene where they debate whether the president has complete power hits a little different in 2025.

One of the more important sentences that can apply to basically everything right now — not just healthcare.

"After all, destruction is easy, but building new systems and improving existing institutions requires competence, vision, and hard work.”

My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.

I bought this chair to read in. It’s hers now. Especially now that there’s a heating pad under that blanket. I surrendered.
