NEW OP-ED | How will Lebanon handle Hizbollah’s weapons?

The safest course in Lebanon would be to work with, rather than against, Hizbollah on disarmament.

A call for 🇮🇱 to rethink its Syria strategy or risk pushing country toward one of the very scenarios it says it wants to avoid: fostering chaos that Iran &/or jihadist militants could exploit, or nudging new govt in Damascus closer to Ankara.

While Israel may prefer a weak and fractured Syria to a strong one led by an Islamist and backed by Türkiye, that scenario presents security risks of its own to Israel. www.crisisgroup.org/middle-east-...

Algeria & Morocco have been embroiled in diplomatic crises since 2021. Mutual self-restraint & U.S. pressure help contain tensions, but there’s escalatory pressure too: bilateral arms race, surge of youth militancy in Western Sahara’s pro-independence Polisario Front & change in DC.

Managing Tensions between Algeria and Morocco | Crisis Group
Since 2021, when Algeria cut ties with Morocco, the two neighbours have been at odds. Thus far, their quarrels have largely remained in the diplomatic realm. Western countries should help keep a lid on the disputes until the time is ripe for a rapprochement.

My latest 📽️ for @crisisgroup.org. Since the Hamas attack last year, Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the #WestBank has reached record levels. Yet, this phenomenon is not new. Watch to understand the context.
