The sleeper must awaken, but not today.

(No shaders/gamedev for a few days, just catchup on rest and play video game for mental health break)

I wanted a survival craft game in a difficult world that I could explore at my own pace and they delivered. I know some people speedran the tech tree and an ornithopter already,
for me this is one of those mmo-lite experiences where I want to slowly savor the journey and dont care about an endgame

theres some unintended game mechanic memes with bene geserit ability 'the voice' where you can approach and get on top of it for a short bit and not die immediately - no actual proper riding and steering one around the world is possible at this time

about 15hrs in, and I enjoy it a lot. It has the aesthetic + vibe of an unforgiving and hostile world where you carve out a safe spot.

Like most games I decide to play, I try to completely avoid press/hype cycle, and no guide. Try go in completely blind to the experience, 'pre-internet' era style.

Playing dune awakening all weekend really resonates with my real life preferences.

Avoiding the sun trying to kill me, I want to be in the shade, it’s always too hot outside, nighttime is cozy.

Better to be nestled in mountains/canyon/indoors, where the sandstorms and sandworms can’t get me :)

the end goal of this obsession with productivity is to enable anyone (with a paid subscription) to ""create"" games at the press of a button

I think pro GenAI ppl would genuinely consider this a good thing

I see it removing humanity and meaning from creative work

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney believes small teams will soon be able to use AI prompts to make video games on the scale of Nintendo masterpiece The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
AI Prompts Will Soon Let a 10-Person Team Build a Game Like Breath of the Wild Where the AI Is Doing All the Dialogue and You Just Write Character Synopsis, Tim Sweeney Predicts

Maybe they want to get ‘ai’ involved in their editor more, and that’s more possible+trainable with script/code than a visual node script system.
Imagine the cursed visual node messes a copilot type thing would make loool

Sorry I am not interested nor available for other opportunities at this time.
Good day to you.

Since grade school I sketched things on paper to visualise them, or closed my eyes and focused on visualising it there, like spinning a coloured cube

graphing things in a visual way with computers in my own style improved my understanding +exploration of using math and data to create pretty pixels

I think a lot about this too, it also gives me pause whenever I think about posting code. Just another thing that could get devoured by ‘the machine’ , eventually scrubbed of any trace of its author and origin.
“I made this” said the ai techbros as they continued to steal with impunity….

Sometimes I flail about for hours when trying to make a shader work or look pretty, trapped in what feels like an escape room math puzzle that asks for perfection in artistic result or accuracy.

It feels good to finally escape and move onto the next room (oh no I’m trapped again)

a procedural texture arealight translucency experiment thing.

no rules stylized rendering, doing pixel crimes

it makes pretty colors, thats all I care about some days
