All my knowledge of the British political system comes from that and has not failed me.

Foot warmer! My newly adopted girl wants to drape her furry self over my feet while I work - and I say YES! But to myself so I won’t disturb her…
Black cat squeezed in to lie next to (and over) sock-clad feet under a pale painted desk. Pale carpet.

Storm Amy is still blowing outside, but Mitzi is safe under the early 20th-cent Liberty side table. The girl has style. 🐈‍⬛ #caturday

Great film! Makers of Lord Carnarvon’s camera (he of Tutankhamun fame), though the story of why I never made it to Downton Abbey/Highclere Castle to see it and other photo material can’t be conveyed in public. Aristocratic archive access is … quite something. 📸📷🏺🗃️

To celebrate UK Black History Month we’re sharing portraits from a lost North Shields studio (1940s–60s), revealing the town’s often forgotten diversity.

It’s been … educational to realize how few of my works - even if published with US publishers - were US copyright registered.

It strikes me how coordinated the effort was in each place I’ve seen: erected at same height (ladders? cherrypickers?), evenly spaced, well secured, on public property (lamp posts or Openreach telegraph poles), and presumably caught on CCTV. Who will take them down and when…?

Well-deserved recognition for the wonderful Nayanika Mookherjee.🏅🌟🔥

The Royal Anthropological Institute has awarded our Prof Nayanika Mookherjee with the Rivers Memorial Medal, one of the highest accolades in #anthropology!

This recognises her outstanding contributions to anthropology, with an emphasis on fieldwork and a significant body of theoretical literature.

I know … the number of people who cite you alongside ‘history of Egyptology‘ bilge is frustrating. I think I get the better deal by not being cited by the bilge-writers at all. 😉

Cutting short a coastal walk near Seaton Delaval bc the flag-shaggers have been out at Seaton Sluice (and North Shields and Sacriston en route). Furious at manipulative, moneyed rightwing media - and failure of Labour to speak up for migrants like me and my friends, colleagues, and neighbours.
