I recently had the pleasure of writing the text for LIGHT INDUSTRY, opening on Thursday 18.10 at Large Glass.

Viewed collectively, the works explore how industries, past and present, and of various scales and levels of visibility, continue to impact our bodies and shape the wider environment.

This is a good and thoughtful essay. Photo booths are a strange thing to have persisted... There is something of the absurd in their invention, and thus, double absurd in their persistence. A romantic machine.

I’ve written lots about the problems with historical photo colourisation (which also uses forms of AI). This is an extension of this practice (an extreme one) reliant on the same logic of emotional ‘impact’ outweighing veracity, and ignoring or refusing to accept the historical limits of imagery.
