Forever 31, whatever makes confused retirees at the grocery store call me "ma'amsir", crouching in a ditch shoving content into my wastrel gullet

allegedly sighted in the Detroit outskirts, but eyewitness accounts remain uncorroborated
Tempo directions include: Do a replica of a Rothko; if you finish before the paint dries, you went too quickly.

I was a huge Of Montreal evangelist in high school, and I've been patiently waiting for the new generation to discover the Hissing Fauna-era stuff.

... with some trepidation surrounding the Georgie Fruit stuff, but I know Kevin Barnes has already written about that particular issue

One of the comments is bemoaning "the younger generation" while talking about being Gen X with a Millennial wife and it's like... you know there are a LOT of millennial furries, right??

Not that there's any use in trying to tease sense out of people being taken in by Boomer ragebait

Do not, my friends, become addicted to satisfaction. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence.

Normies barely register this place, and if they do, it's as a glorified wokescold containment platform. I get some valuable insights on here, but I know there's no social cache in it at the end of the day

Some of us are severely lacking in perspective on our overall importance to, well, *anything*. Bluesky is the "free speech cage" a la Arrested Development outside the nightmare factory, and truly nothing more. If you have people you like here, that's great, but let's not delude ourselves
December 16, 2025 at 12:08 PM
Look, I... every time I see someone on here talking about reactionaries "fearing" Bluesky discourse? You're exactly who needs to hear what Jamelle is saying. "Fear" is a silly, grossly hyperbolic word for whatever Musk-grade brain-poisoned takes we like to pass around huffing all the copium out of

There's frankly no justice harsh enough for the kind of people responsible for a system regularly producing outcomes like this

I'd ask if the online right has poisoned the well so bad that we all just immediately assume the absolute worst when given any doubt to hang on, but I already know the answer to the question
December 5, 2025 at 5:56 PM
This is such a bad faith interpretation of what I said that I have to assume you're trolling. In no way did I say that I don't understand the racism of our country's history.

"The sitting President's birthday is now a national holiday" is giving real god-king vibes

No one currently alive was??? I don't understand this reply
December 5, 2025 at 1:31 PM
I should note here that I don't mean to overexplain a phenomenon to anyone who's already painfully aware of it

Disability is so often fluid and hard to pin down diagnostically, and you really have to shove your traits into a box and perform them to be acknowledged adequately and get support for them.

There's this pervasive idea that buying into systems of medicalized authority confers the protection of legitimacy. I wish it were that simple, honestly, but it isn't. Anyone who's dealt with the benefits system while being on the spectrum and masking knows this.
December 3, 2025 at 2:02 PM
There's that pernicious tendency for people who are disabled to exhibit a hypervigilance around "legitimacy" out of fear of being on the receiving end of the accusation. I see a similar tendency in friends who are likely neurodivergent but unDX'd railing against the practice of self-diagnosis.

My mom essentially didn't think our neighbor was adequately performing her disability because she saw her moving items she thought she shouldn't have been physically capable of. This coming from a woman who's suffered from myriad chronic conditions for most of her adult life.
December 3, 2025 at 2:02 PM
The observation that the most prominent suspicion of con being leveled from other people who interface with the benefits system is definitely reflective of my experience. I was on SSI for many years while living with my mom, and she once reported a neighbor of ours on SSDI for fraud.

I do love the idea that these technocrats are so wildly out of touch that they think "regular people" get out of their vehicles and crouch into Gollum position in the middle of the parking lot to eat their McD's
November 23, 2025 at 6:10 PM
If it seems like I'm grabbing at a point of thought midstream, yuh huh that is exactly what's happening. Will I elaborate on the context? Do I look like a coward?
November 23, 2025 at 3:56 AM
Point of view is the thing I personally value, and that can arise from any place in the cultural landscape. It's a slippery quality that can't be easily qualified or defined from a theoretical standpoint.
November 23, 2025 at 3:52 AM
I don't necessarily want to fall for the trap of insisting that the opposite must be true---that the UNfashionable is then inherently more relevant. I'd simply argue that there's no real direct relationship at all between contemporaneity and artistic merit.

I feel like I have to add a million disclaimers that, no, I'm not trying to engage in pedophilia and infidelity apologia.
