“You’re sprouting,” Jayce says one morning, pointing at Viktor’s arm.

He stares at Jayce for just a moment, wondering if perhaps this is a new hallucination, something else he should worry about, but when Viktor looks down at himself he sees what Jayce means. Viktor is sprouting. Several tiny green shoots have grown up between the chitinous joints of his arm, pointed leaves stretching out towards the weak spring sunbeams coming through the window. There are more sprouting from his legs, his abdomen, even a vine sprouting from his other elbow that is trying to wrap around his arm.

What the fuck?

Viktor eases his jacket off his shoulders, kisses his shivering face. He traces a soft line between Jayce’s shoulder blades, up and down, watching his back rise and fall, slower, less pained. “When I’m with you, I’m quiet,” Jayce told him once. He kisses the nape of Jayce’s neck.

“God, V,” Jayce breathes. He kisses Viktor back, nuzzling the crook of his shoulder.

The thing he always forgets about healing a wound, is that some are bad enough they require debriding, first. To carve away that which has festered too long.

To be touched softly is to be torn open, the dysfunctional scabbing pulled back to leave him raw and throbbing at the agony of it. He's near delirious as Viktor tucks himself upon the desk to pull Jayce forward, cradling Jayce's head against his belly, knees pressed to his ribs. Jayce can hear Viktor’s heartbeat, and it rends yet another pitiful bout of sobs from him. Viktor just strokes his hair, waiting him out, a soft hum of some vaguely familiar tune buzzing soothingly against Jayce's cheek.

He's not certain how long they stay that way. Long enough that his head throbs from dehydration. The swelling around his eyes makes his skin feel uncomfortably tight. He's not really sure where to go from here.

My one year top surgery anniversary is tomorrow :') I'm unsure if I'll be able to draw anything more extravagant for the occasion but this little sketch was fun to do nonetheless #jayvik
