Halfway through S5:E1 of Stranger Things. So far okay. Very exposition-y, the writing of the adults isn't great, but it's early days...

Watching The Lowdown on Hulu Freakin Ethan Hawke being Ethan Hawke. It isn't a perfect neo-noir but it's really good!

About page rates: "More likely you had to work 10 hours or more per day to make that schedule: $6.25 per hour. Oh, and no benefits. No employer paying social security. Nothing. Take out that money as well, and you are working for something like $5 per hour." colleendoran.substack.com/p/about-thos...

Mark Kelly: "I said something that was pretty simple and non-controversial, and that was that members of the military should follow the law. In response to that, Trump said I should be executed, I should be hanged ... it says a lot more about him than it says about me. I'm not going to be silenced."

Here's the difference, as I see it. Are there liberal ideas that go too far? Of course but the left never pushes that far. The moment the right gets a foothold they go straight to fascism.
The leftists in America are really mildly left of center, the right-wing seems to go as far right as they can.
The U.S. State Department is repeating a white nationalist conspiracy theory.

On Friday, it claimed that “mass migration poses an existential threat to Western civilization.”

That line comes straight from the Great Replacement myth: the lie that immigration is a plot to erase white populations.

We have gotten so used to Great Replacement becoming normalized that most people hardly noticed that a racist, antisemitic, xenophobic conspiracy theory popularized by mass shooters and 4chan trolls is now government policy.

The implications are mind-boggling, but so is the fact that that is a Disney's The Santa Clause laserdisc.
I tested a machine learning model designed to detect NSFW content. It marked this image as unsafe, because of Tim Allen's breasts (marked in blue) and my hand-penis (marked in green)

I was an ex retail employee who had been fixing people's home computers. Business was meh & I had taken time off to be home with my small children. The private school I enrolled them in roped me into being the Technology Coordinator. It's been one of the best jobs I've ever had.

All great stories share one special ingredient. Epic Fantasy? Steamy Romance? Hard SciFi? Look carefully and you'll find it: someone getting hit with a briefcase full of bees.

Are there other #writers out there who aren't drowning in story ideas? I love to write, I've been told I'm pretty good at it, but I never had the thousands of overflowing notebooks so many writers seem to have. #writing #writingcommunity

US Border Patrol has been secretly using a nationwide network of license-plate readers and predictive algorithms to track millions of American drivers, even far from the border, ABC reports.

Anyone the system throws up for “suspicious travel patterns” are questioned, searched or arrested by police.

Hi, I'm James. I'm new here. I edit genre fiction and help writers find more success by improving their craft, mindsets, and routines. I've written a few things, and I enjoy talking about anything to do with storytelling. I watch lots of movies, too.

Still banging away at this novel thing. I was running through the plot & subplots while walking today & I realized my protagonist doesn't interact much with friends. Then I realized why. Seems I'm a pretty shitty friend, who doesn't really keep in touch very well. Huh. #writing #writingcommunity

In my 20's I worked for bar bands. I got to sing covers often. Had a few I was pretty good at because I'm a good mimic. But I never sang enough to find my own voice. It's been the same with writing, this is the first project that I think sounds like "my voice." Feels good. #writing #writinglife
