i was exploring back through the family trees and i found an ancestor of mine 11 generations back who was with La Salle and Tonti at Creve coeur, and at the mouth of the Mississippi when they claimed Louisiana for France. just kind of neat

and though this 18th century map doesn't include Ft. Creve Coeur, it does place Pimeteoui upstream of the Sangamon river. and it was drawn closer to La Salle's time

i guess there are some bluffs across from Beardstown. i suppose it's possible. maybe I'm biased, but i just think the Peoria area Pimeteoui is a better spot for a fort
