Lover of all things nerdy, especially sci-fi and horror films, gaming in all forms and 1930s weird fiction. I adore MST3k and have a soft spot for B-Movies! 🏳️‍🌈

I hate to be contrarian about this year's horror films, but nothing has really moved me so far until I watched The Substance. That film is both a deeply meaningful reflection on self-hatred, loathing, and artificial beauty standards as well as a gory, carnivalesque nightmare. Wow.

My ★★★★½ review of The Substance on Letterboxd boxd.it/7FPPeZ

An absolutely incredible, disgusting, beautiful, splatterific masterpiece.
A ★★★★½ review of The Substance (2024)
By turns, horrifying, disgusting, brilliant, beautiful, mind expanding, shocking, grotesque, erotic, gratuitous, just gratuitous enough, nearly flawless? This one knocked my socks off.

Cheesy, but also transgressive, brilliantly acted and surprisingly brutal. Dunst is mind bogglingly good.

Like high-end junk food.

You really got to admire the skill of these poster artists of the B-Movie era, who transformed truly terrible films into something that still manages to look awesome when you're buying a movie ticket.

I think I had this assigned to me in a college class 20 years ago. I think it's always been viewed as good literature.

The Evil Dead series is a little splatterific for me, but I really like this entry. It has a sense of fun and humor and good characterization like the OG films.

Found at a thrift store for less than $5! It's so rare to find anything other than the same tired old Monopoly and trivial pursuit names. This one's pretty fantastic, especially if you like Civilization.

Anyone watching any classic black and white horror films during this time of year? For some reason I feel a strong urge to put in Creature From the Black Lagoon.
