The NYT has been, and will continue to be, an active collaborator in the attacks on trans rights and publishing an editorial distancing themselves from the damage while doubling down on the lies and half-truths is worse than silence.
I guess I'd rather they publish something like this than not, but man it takes some big brass ones for the Times Editorial Board to come out with something like this after the past decade and a half
Does the Times regret its contributions to those attacks?

1. Yesterday, Trump's executive order crossed a new line.

No longer are the NYT Op-eds, thin veneers of pseudoscience, and false claims about trans people needed to justify discrimination.

We enter an era where our humanity itself is officially questioned.

The Chilling Line Trump Just Crossed On Transgender People
With the latest trans military executive order, the administration has given up all pretense of "evidence-based care," and has moved to the kind of dehumanization meant to justify atrocity.

Breaking:

Attorneys general from 18 states have sued the Trump admin to block his executive order that refuses to recognize the U.S.-born children of unauthorized immigrants as citizens.

The complaint is joined by the cities of San Francisco and D.C.

1. Yesterday, Trump released a broad anti-trans executive order that could have extreme impacts on transgender people's lives if implemented.

There has been much discussion of what it actually does.

In my latest piece, I go line by line to explain it.

A Line By Line Analysis Of Trump's Big Anti-Trans Executive Order
Trump released over 70 executive orders on Monday. While orders on immigration and climate got a lot of attention, his anti-transgender order could have sweeping impacts as well.

Yes. Confusion and fear is part of it. Which is why states need to say "make us." Force them to actually enforce this stuff. It becomes a hydra of enforcement difficulty for the feds.

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

California, New York, and Nevada constitutionally cannot comply. Gender identity is constitutionally protected in those states.

in order to truly combat american fascism from within the nation, a new rainbow coalition is needed between leftists organizations. education and community should be the top priority of all.
January 21, 2025 at 6:27 AM
1. media and education are the greatest tools for building a collective, leftist movement right now.

2. there needs to be more solidarity between leftist groups.

3. a focus on social programs and community service is need. the government will not provide, it is up to us to provide for the people.

I'm expecting trans people's passports to be a major battleground of this administration.

It’s notable that the double Nazi salute is not only clear, it’s also perfectly in line with Elon Musk and Trump’s ideology of white genocide, great replacement theory, and the cult of reproduction.

And Nazis are very much feeling empowered to be visible today.

Republicans’ new bill to ban trans girls from playing sports doesn't actually protect women; instead it opens the door for schools to investigate all female students’ bodies. It's disgusting and invasive, and we shouldn't be wasting our time on this hateful legislation.

given the arguments democrats just presented, if you have a republican congressperson calling them right now and saying, "my representative needs to vote no on the HR28 sports bill—because genital inspections for kids are sick" might be a really solid idea.
