this exists it is called thinking
Matthew McConaughey says he wants a private LLM, fed only with his books, notes, journals, and aspirations, so he can ask it questions and get answers based solely on that information, without any outside influence.

Putting together resources for a Critical EdTech grad course I'm teaching this fall, and definitely using some of the keynotes from @civicsoftech.bsky.social conferences. The 2023 keynote from @lucipangrazio.bsky.social is a gem!

I'll say it again: Big Tech's use of AI technologies to capture education is not inevitable. Over at @civicsoftech.bsky.social, we're developing a community for resisting, refusing, repurposing, and reimagining technology in education. Join us!
An excerpt from the article, "Silicon Valley’s Drive to Get AI Into America’s Schools Is Working" by Vauhini Vara. The excerpt reads, "But none of that is inevitable. A grassroots movement is growing among those determined to resist the proliferation of AI in schools. The Civics of Technology Project, founded in 2022 by educators and researchers, wants to instead have administrators, teachers, students and parents prioritize studying “the collateral, disproportionate, and unexpected effects of technology”—including AI. One option is to imagine, and work to bring about, an alternative future in which AI doesn’t dominate. “There are ways that teachers, caregivers and students, too, can say, ‘Well, what if I don’t want to have to use this technology?’” said Charles Logan, a research fellow at Northwestern University and a board member for the Civics of Technology Project."

Thank you, @bloomberg.com, for quoting @charleswlogan.bsky.social and shouting out @civicsoftech.bsky.social. Teachers should follow both for an equity-informed vision of technology in schools.

It has been really interesting to attend UNESCO's Digital Learning Week (though unfortunately I'm not able to stick around). My public lecture from yesterday can be found here:

Overheard in the pickup line at school:

6th Grader: “We had our first @civicsoftech.bsky.social class today, and it’s the only class where technology is used for good.”
