At the end of last year, the Government launched their Animal Welfare Strategy with some big promises for farmed animals. Now it's time to turn these words into action.

To everyone who's been part of the movement to end factory farming this year, thank you!

Together, we're a powerful voice for farmed animals, and we couldn't run any of our campaigns without you. 💚

Here's to a new year of fighting for even more wins for farmed animals. 💪

Sharing another commitment from the new UK Government Animal Welfare Strategy!

Culling male chicks is a common practice in the egg industry. As male chicks cannot lay eggs, they are often considered a 'waste product'. We welcome steps to end this cruel practice.

Around 90% of pigs sent for slaughter in the UK are currently killed using CO2. This involves lowering pigs into a CO2 chamber, where they panic, fight for breath, and eventually suffocate.

Steps to end this cruel method are long overdue.

The UK Government have committed to publishing guidance clarifying that live boiling is not an acceptable killing method for crabs and lobsters.

Great work from our friends at @crab_welfare.

The UK Government will be consulting on legislation to reduce suffering at slaughter for fish.

77 million fish are farmed and slaughtered in the UK every year, but despite this, there are currently very few legal protections for these sentient animals.

The Government's Animal Welfare Strategy includes a commitment to support voluntary efforts to move away from the use of fast-growing meat chicken
breeds.

While we ultimately want to see more than voluntary progress, this is a welcome step. We will continue our work to improve chicken welfare.

THIS is why today's announcement on moving away from cages for hens is SO important.

Call on the UK Government to deliver on this as soon as possible: https://bit.ly/4pis808

The Italian Government will end the culling of day-old male chicks by the end of 2026!

Hatcheries will soon be required to use in-ovo sexing that can detect the sex of an embryo before it hatches, instead of cruel culling.

Great work from our friends at Animal Equality Italia. 👏

#HonestLabelling "will not only help improve the welfare of millions of farmed animals but also give more support to Britain’s higher welfare farmers"

Anthony Field, Head of our UK Team, calling on the Government to implement clear food labelling.

“If the information [on food labels] we’re given is false, our choices aren’t really ours... what we know & what we don’t know shapes every purchase we make”

Diane Morgan speaking at the parliamentary briefing we've organised with @animallawfdn.bsky.social and Humane World for Animals.

Edie Bowles (@animallawfdn.bsky.social) highlights that misleading labels are not just a moral issue, but a legal one too. Misleading images of rolling hills of factory farmed products must be stopped, and existing laws must be enforced.

"UK consumers are very often left in the dark, people want to know the provenance of what they eat"

Dr Neil Hudson calls for Government action to fix misleading food labels.

"Our current animal product labelling laws are not fit for purpose. For farmers trying hard to improve animal welfare, it’s extremely challenging"

Today we’re in Parliament to highlight misinformation on animal products.

100% of British supermarket websites depict animals outside, despite 85% of UK farmed animals being reared in intensive conditions.

Alongside @animallawfdn.bsky.social & @humaneworlduk.bsky.social, we’re calling for change.
