I think because people want to seem smarter than they are. So they make these long deep dives into why something is or isn't, when the "rule of cool" or "it's fantasy, just go with it" are the actual answers. And if the game doesn't have that lore? "Horribly written, trash tier story."
So much of game criticism right now is about some level of realism or coherence within a fantasy world when none of that matters. You used to play Chrono Trigger and you’d run into a talking frog and it wouldn’t be a thing, he’d just be a frog who talked in Medieval English. You’d go ok and have fun

My question is that when all the legitimate journalists leave X for good and start using rising alternatives, what will be left for any form of intelligent conversation on the platform? Breitbart and Fox News are known to be uninformed outlets. Even the trolls know that right? What's the endgame?
