Stimulating and interesting essay, esp. how secrecy informs the narrative reconstitution and replenishment of American exceptionalism across time; a 20C redux of manifest destiny is (re)produced via secrecy.

Well worth reading!

📝 SPIN is delighted to share an essay by Politics & IR student Shae Miles: The Age of Innocence and Ignorance: Exploring the ‘silencing of the past’ in US foreign policy. This was written as part of Shae's excellent work on the University of Bristol's US Foreign Policy unit.

I know there are many trans and non-binary people who will be feeling deeply worried today, caught in the midst of a media storm as they try to simply live their lives. Please know that I stand with you - today, tomorrow and always.

My statement in response to the Supreme Court ruling today:
"I know there are many trans and non-binary people who will be feeling deeply worried today, caught in the midst of a media storm as they try to simply live their lives. To those people, I say: please know that I stand with you - today, tomorrow and always.
The Green Party continues to support a policy of self-ID to allow trans people to live full lives free from harassment in the gender they know themselves to be. The judge emphasised in his speech that trans people are still protected under the law, but it is for government to now demonstrate how this will be achieved.
I will work closely with human rights and LGBTIQA+ groups to understand the consequences of this ruling, and will not hesitate to press for changes in legislation if it is needed to protect the human rights of all.” - Carla Denyer MP, Green Party Co-leader - MP Bristol Central
