I think there's a lot of truth in this.

You have a few stubborn mules like Larry Kudlow, still insisting against all evidence that trickle-down economics actually works.

The rest of them move further right, because admitting the left might have had a point is inconceivable.

This is my basic theory for a lot of what is going on with the centre right atm

The ideas failed utterly and now there is a total crisis of intellectual confidence
indy.bsky.social
It nags at me that people are dancing around the fact that one reason centre-right think-tanks are in an intellectual crisis moment is because we've spent over a decade where lots of their ideas were tried out and didn't pan out as advertised.

Badenoch's brain should be studied. Visibly believes that she has put the hours in working while all her policy suggestions are just obviously picked up on Twitter without any critical thought before they end up as policy. Visibly confused as to who was in office 2010 to 2024.

"while we were arguing about what a woman is, china was building five nuclear reactors"

Yes but that is very explicitly your fault, more than most, kemi.

She's such a strange perception of herself

I did not need that visual of Kemi in a hot dog suit to start my day, tyvm

Yeah, and the neocons. Who, shockingly, are our new allies of convenience.

I hate everything about this timeline.

Because Democratic voters—the ones whose support candidates will need in the primaries—are definitely going to want to hear the answer to that question.
rickywlmsbong.bsky.social
democrats in general - and ones with 2028 aspirations especially - should, imo, be thinking about how to answer the question: "what are you going to do to make these people pay?"

I don't think this is quite what was intended but I'm highly amused that Gilmore Girls and The Sopranos are tv shows in each other's universes.

My item on this suggested that while it could be how inept Trump always is, what I suspect is going on is that the GOP has just lost the ability to talk to anyone outside their strongest supporters. goodpoliticsbadpolitics.substack.com/p/underminin...

(Politico) - One week into the government shutdown, top Republican leaders appear to have lost the plot.

"Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia" should be how Democrats begin every single comment to reporters these days.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

Some of you have never been mods on a decently large site and it shows.

I'm glad I have aphantasia.

do people really think you can just post any arbitrary image on a large social media website without an entire mountain of automation kicking in to make sure you’re not spamming child pornography or videos of people being stabbed to death because that’s the entire history of social media in sum
cjlemire.com
Yeah no, not missing that at all

The problem being that there is no real center-right in 21st century US politics. There's the center-left, and the extreme right.

So these media orgs wind up chasing the extreme right in the name of "balance" and abandon/alienate the center-left in the process.

Tommy Tuberville on the 2020 census: "The Democrats were letting illegals come in for a different count. They obviously had a census going that was all rigged. The 2020 election basically was rigged."

Remind me how that worked out for Charles I again?

This is personalism. It's the Charles I scenario -- the king rules without the a legislature and simply taxes and spends in whatever way he feels like.

Impeach, remove, disqualify.
