Walking with Benny - I’m on the hunt for unexpected beauty and inspiration. He’s just looking for snacks. Communications & Marketing VP for @abcbirds.bsky.social. Living in lovely Catonsville, MD.
Exploring Catonsville history with Benny! The Catonsville 9 were Catholic activists who burned draft cards in protest of the Vietnam War inspired more anti-war protests around the country.

Today we walked on the Trolley Trail in Catonsville. Lots of history here, and nice places to walk and sniff - we love it!

Today we spotted a Kentucky coffee tree seed pod. Benny decided it’s not good for eating; someone else evidently disagreed.

I spend a LOT of time with Benny. It gets boring. So I decided to make a game out of it. How many interesting things can I see while walking the dog? Today we spotted a persimmon tree! I love the texture of the bark. Benny loves how it smells apparently.

I just saw a cicada killer riding on a cicada’s back “how to train your dragon” style. Brought the cicada down to finish it off. Brutal and amazing! #insects #cicadas #nature

Adorable bobwhite behavior - jumping to reach the berries! Anyone seen this before? This was today on the #Chincoteague wildlife loop. #birds #birding @abcbirds.bsky.social

I love that @abcbirds.bsky.social celebrates #Pride each year with this special birding event. Happy birding and happy Pride, ya’ll! 🌈 🪺 🪷
🪷 Earlier this month, we gathered for ABC’s 3rd annual Birding Con Orgullo — a joyful celebration of identity & nature.
We shared poetry, welcomed the season’s first lotuses, & spotted a variety of birds.

🌱 Co-hosts: Latino Outdoors, Feminist Bird Club, Out for Sustainability, & Kenilworth Gardens.

Feeding frenzy at Chincoteague NWR - I met a #USFWS volunteer out doing a bird survey (she’s also a member of @abcbirds.bsky.social!) She said the water is low right now so fish are concentrated in places like Black Duck Marsh and birds are feasting. Awesome esp. to see the skimmers. #AddBirder

Spring in Catonsville MD. Towhee “tee-ing,”Red-winged Blackbirds conk-a-reeing and White-throated Sparrows singing about Canada. You could almost believe everything’s alright in the world!

I devoured this book in a single day. It’s an inspiring read by a person who has been on death row for decades for a crime he didn’t commit. He turned to writing and Buddhism during his incarceration. #freejarvis

I heard my first Red-winged Blackbird of the spring this week, returning to breeding grounds as if everything is normal. It really hit me hard - the contrast of that familiar song against this backdrop of total chaos. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

We’re so happy to have @bintadixon.bsky.social on our team! From day one she’s been expressing her love for birds and nature in such a beautiful way. Thank you Binta!
So honored to be a part of the #afrofuturism collective with these incredible folks. Getting to weave fiction with my love of nature and community is truly a dream realized.
ABC & Re:wild are proud to announce the inaugural Afrofuturism Collective!

The Collective’s nine members will independently and collectively examine how stories, lifeways, technologies, and concepts from the African diaspora might influence biodiversity conservation and habitat stewardship. 🐦

Our shared love for birds inspires us to keep fighting for nature.💪 As another member of our ABC community wrote last Valentine’s Day, “I want to do what I can to ensure the world is full of birdsong now and well into the future.” Today and always, that is American Bird Conservancy’s mission & hope.
