Interesting warranties in a new electric car I'm reviewing in a few weeks time.
7-year/160,000km warranty on the vehicle – plus 8 years/240,000km on the high-voltage battery.
Repeat after me:
The battery will last longer than the car.

Maybe the most surprising chart from my article about the European battery recycling market today. In Germany, a market with no credits or subsidies for EVs, BEV/PHEVs had market shares of between 31% and 62% in three segments including SUV in 2024. Nicht schlecht!

Quebec, Canada is leading North America in EV adoption with 33% market share of new car sales—higher than even California! ⚡ Powered by renewables, massive lithium deposits, and a 2035 gas car ban firmly set, Quebec is charging ahead toward a sustainable future. 🍁🔋 #EVRevolution #Quebec #Lithium #EV
Quebec will ban gas engines in cars starting in 2035 – or sooner?
Quebec has passed a stronger gas-engine ban than the rest of Canada, which won't even allow new plug-in hybrids starting in 2035.

On the back of a record month for EV sales and strong BESS deployments in November, global demand for the year has surpassed the 1TWh mark, a milestone narrowly missed in 2023.

With 2024 EV sales in the EU in decline, the work required to meet 2025 emission targets is significant. Based on current sales OEMs would face huge fines.

Pressure is ramping up on the upcoming legislation, with calls for carmakers to get relief from fines for next year.

Most of the batteries will be made by incumbent manufacturers. That's ok.

In 2022, a spike in lithium & nickel prices halted 20 yrs of steady cost reductions in batteries. Now, investments in metal/material production have put the world back on a path toward ever cheaper batteries and EV demand growth. But, this has been dominated by China, and the US is playing catch-up.
The results from BloombergNEF's 2024 lithium-ion battery price survey are out. Lithium-ion battery pack prices dropped 20% from 2023 to a record low of $115 per kilowatt-hour. This is the largest decline observed in our survey since 2017. 🧵⬇️
