Her mom is a right-wing lawyer and the essay was intentionally half-assed because THEY WERE TARGETING A TRANS EDUCATOR.

This wasn't simply a student who got upset over a bad grade.

This was a PLANNED attempt to get a trans educator fired.

Minimizing that does not help.

Yeah I talk to trans people on here all the time. It turns out that they're really quite disillusioned with the Democrats, who knew?
December 25, 2025 at 10:35 PM
Oh, ok, then we should just unseat the specific democrats who are in charge of the party, and install some who will at least do good enough PR to give the impression that they are fighting for us?
December 25, 2025 at 8:11 PM
If we still live in a democracy, then "endless pointless bitching" is how political change starts -- attract enough attention to form voter blocs and then unseat repubs

If we don't live in a democracy anymore -- then Democrats don't need you defending them, do they?

and the change in focus means we get a pretty good on-screen, sympathetic depiction of a poly triad

I guess I don't consider those criticisms terribly strong, because I don't think the point of adaptation is to merely help people visualize what's in the book. The show's metaphor of SecUnits for what the military makes you into still works, it's set up a good arc for Murderbot's development,
December 23, 2025 at 7:43 AM
I'm trying to turn up the part of my Murderbot omnibus where it specifies its body type and all I've got so far is that there is *some* standard height and build for SecUnits, but not what that is

As for Blade Runner; I unironically thing Blade Runner: Black Lotus is a great show that delivers on the movie's themes better than it did. And the Orientalism doesn't feel so bad when it's Japanese people making it.

(the Runner in this one isn't a rapist! Murderer, yes, that's the job)

December 23, 2025 at 6:58 AM
The genderless nature of Murderbot mostly holds up, I think? Whenever it has do do anything not directly related to security, it has to refer to its media for how to act, sometimes with a cut-away to Sanctuary Moon. "Acting natural" isn't a thing except when it's mad about canon
December 23, 2025 at 6:58 AM
The show is relatively less about Murderbot itself, and more about the Preservation Alliance crew it protects; Murderbot leaves its helmet off because Mensah thinks this will make it less alien to the rest of the crew, who are a lot higher strung than they were in the book
