“the failure of the environmental improvements created in mitigation for the A14 are an example of how powerful developers make environmental pledges to gain planning permission, which are then not upheld”

How a £1.5bn ‘wildlife-boosting’ bypass became an environmental disaster
A14 in Cambridgeshire promised biodiversity net gain of 11.5%, but most of the 860,000 trees planted are dead. What went wrong?

We have installed 80 wildlife cameras in SW Alberta to monitor wildlife near Highway 3! This was a big effort by our project team and we look forward to sharing project updates and results... and fun wildlife photos. 😎

Reconnecting the Rockies - BC is focused on improving motorist and wildlife safety on Highway 3 in SE BC. Already, 8.4 km of fencing has been installed and 6 underpasses have been retrofitted to allow for wildlife movement!

In rural Alaska and B.C., peaceful coexistence with grizzlies means change on both sides. 🐻

Postdoc Dr. @claytontlamb.bsky.social of @ubcokanagan.bsky.social tells @knowablemag.bsky.social that collaboration with residents is key to building lasting coexistence with grizzlies: bit.ly/4jMYI8i

Great evening with some @y2y.bsky.social friends discussing wildlife conservation and coexistence in the Elk Valley and beyond. Awesome to have graphics from @rushstudio.bsky.social and Fuse consulting anchoring our discussions. Exciting solutions for highway collisions and bear conflicts brewing.

New paper by Lamb et al. (@claytontlamb.bsky.social). Southern mountain caribou exhibit both vertical and horizontal migration, but migratory behaviours are under threat due to disturbances, particularly at lower elevations.

In the calls to defend Canada, we’re getting a one-dimensional perspective: increased resource extraction & exploitation.

But what if your #cdnpoli includes its wilderness, which sustains us & the good life we enjoy here? Thanks @wcscanada.bsky.social for this piece:

NEW PAPER: looking into the erosion of southern mountain caribou migrations. Over 35 years, migration distances shrank 15-25%, and elevational migrations are collapsing. Habitat loss, not weather, likely the main culprit. A major conservation challenge ahead.
