Four societies (@iaglr.bsky.social, @scas-scsa.bsky.social, @csee-scee.bsky.social, @aslo.org) that I belong to are having their conferences in May 2026, incl. two at the same time:/ I guess my lab will have to divide and conquer where we go. Still, fortunate to have options that are all in Canada:)

Weak sauce that comes off as moral equivalence. Completely misrepresents what’s at stake here. Get the perspective of someone from a marginalized group to truly understand why your thesis is harmful.

🌊 One-quarter of freshwater species are at risk of extinction, warns the IUCN Red List.

From crabs to fish, these creatures are vital for ecosystems and human livelihoods. Pollution, habitat loss, and invasive species drive this crisis.🐟🦐

The evolutionary context of an invasion greatly influences the resulting impact.

It can mediate whether native species go extinct and ecosystems become disrupted.

Here is an example (one of many).

When the brown tree snake invaded Guam, which has no native snakes, it drove forest bird species (which were naive to snakes) extinct.
The loss of avian seed dispersers disrupted the frugivore-plant mutualism, causing a >60% decline in seedling recruitment.

It’s as if they’ve never consulted with the actual academics and students that do the research and have published like this for decades before landing on this policy 🤷

If they don’t want their manuscript submissions to drastically drop, they’ll repeal this policy.
