Patty, David, and SFWA wasted a lot of time trying to help Must Read come up with a non-predatory boilerplate contract. So did other authors. Some authors walked. Suffice to say Must Read has been on notice for months that their contract's bad, and their response is gaslighting.

My fellow creatives, I’m begging you to purge such thoughts from your mind. I don’t care if it’s your first acceptance ever, or if your word count is in single digits, your work (and you) have value. If your art was worthless, they wouldn’t be asking for it. 2/5

Losing three big pubs because the management doesn't like some of the posted safety rules doesn't help the situation; but I'm still not going to swim where they've gotten rid of the lifeguards.

If they return he gets the legitimacy of being on the longlist with people who initially withdrew in protest of a TERF's inclusion on a LGBTQ+ award ballot. If they don't he gets to complain about how they turned down his "generous" offer to withdraw.
It's all very cynical. 2/2
