Highlighting the gap between what we know about climate change, and what we're actually doing about it. Also, just a guy with beavers in his backyard (thanks to a stream) so expect random beaver news.

Why Fears of a Trillion-Dollar AI Bubble Are Growing

Investors have parted with unprecedented sums of money to help AI fulfil its lofty promise. But no one really knows how it will all pay off

There is so much evidence from around the world about how beavers can help improve our ecosystems, including those adjacent to agricultural lands, and yet farm groups still turn a blind eye to it. The old ways die hard. But the Welsh Government is doing the right thing!

The number of these "is AI a bubble?" stories is really growing.

"As long as tech-firm valuations keep soaring into the stratosphere and investors keep getting rich, the incentives remain for Wall Street to bless the boom and ignore the doomsday scenarios."

Sound familiar?
The AI boom's reliance on circular deals is raising fears of a bubble
A spate of recent deals among AI's biggest players has tightened the circle of companies and investments underpinning the technology’s explosive growth.

Economic growth always wins.

"...efforts to dissuade people from air travel have been all but abandoned amid an absence of alternatives and a need to generate economic growth."

“The green agenda is dead.... The idea...that we should all cycle or go by train or go by motorway, those days are over.”
How politicians and passengers gave up on greener air travel

This is something EJ/CJ advocates knew from the start and the mainstream movements did not listen. We don't have time to keep making the same mistakes. The only way to reduce emissions is to STOP fossil fuel use. No more of this offset/negative emission bs
Carbon offsets fail to cut global heating due to ‘intractable’ systemic problems, study says
Analysis of 25 years of evidence shows most schemes are poor quality and fail to lower emissions

2/2 Some late-season bumblebees are the queens who hibernate over the winter, while the rest die off. That's why late-blooming flowers are critical, because it's food the bumblebee queens can fatten up on for the winter ahead. Even the asters are gone, now -- only chickweed flowers remain.
climate-disconnect.bsky.social
We let the "living pathways" in our gardens grow this year, rather than mowing them. The clover eventually gave way to chickweed, whose white flowers have been a pollinator favorite for months. Now, well past our 1st frost, chickweed flowers are all that's left for our late foraging bumblebees. 1/2

Yes, and thankfully the human population may start shrinking by 2080 ... but only *after* we've added another two billion people to the planet by then.

As usual, not a word in this article about the impact of 8 billion humans on our planet and fellow species. It's always, and only, about us.

This is one of the strangest pieces yet on declining birth rates. She seems to argue that we need more babies because ... we need more moms. And if we don't have more babies, the remaining moms will face more anxiety.

Xerces also had a fascinating podcast on this very subject a few weeks ago ... I learned a lot in this 34-minute episode. The number of insects and other critters who depend on leaf cover for the winter astounded me. When we rake it all up, we kill them. Let's not do that.
