@luketryl.bsky.social - We are the country that CAN on decarbonisation. Emissions have halved. The world didn't end. We can do this and it's great.
For our third panel, we're looking at how we communicate the 'Big Ideas' to maintain consensus for this govt's ambitions.

Joining us for this: @chriscurtis94.bsky.social, @luketryl.bsky.social, @christabelcoops.bsky.social, @sophievipond.bsky.social, chaired by @prafulnargund.bsky.social

@pollybillington.bsky.social 'bats and newts are not the enemy'. The planning system isn't working for nature or affordable decent housing supply.
We will shortly be kicking off our Green Growth Summit in partnership with @labourgrowth.bsky.social !

Our first panel focuses on nature and planning - with @rachelblakemp.bsky.social, @pollybillington.bsky.social,Natasha Hyde and Ali Plummer, chaired by @jessicaelgot.bsky.social

We want to make sure Rachel Reeves MP sees some important % and ££s:
🇬🇧 80% of UK millionaires support a 2% tax on wealth over £10m
🇬🇧 81% think it’s patriotic to pay their fair share
We’re proud to pay and here to stay

The UK govt softened tax reforms on the superrich because of a widely reported “exodus” of millionaires fleeing the UK.

Our new study w/ @patmillsuk.bsky.social & @taxjusticeuk.bsky.social shows that the "exodus" was a complete fiction.

Millionaire exodus did not occur, study reveals - Tax Justice Network
The number of millionaires widely reported in the news to be leaving countries in "exodus" represented near-0% of all millionaires.

Frustratingly bad planning application for the #SnowsfieldsQuarter has landed. It's been rushed, contains errors, omissions and misleading statements. Described as 'All about Profit, not People'.

There is an alternative to Government welfare cuts - a 2% tax on wealth. There is no shortage of money here, we just need a fairer approach to tax - take more from the few not the many.

No more cuts. For a better Britain, we want MPs to listen and tax the richest people like us. It’s the patriotic thing to do 🇬🇧

Great thread...
Extreme wealth is extreme control. Never has this been so clear. Well we don’t have to settle for it. In our letter to Davos leaders, 370+ millionaires & billionaires say we must draw the line. Protect ppl, planet, & democracy: rein in extreme wealth & tax us, the super rich.
Influence of super rich on Donald Trump threatens democracy, say Patriotic Millionaires

Billionaire wealth has risen 3 times faster in 2024 than 2023 according to @oxfamgb.bsky.social with 60% coming from either inheritance, cronyism and corruption or monopoly power.

This gross level of wealth hoarding is unjust and unsustainable.

Now is the time to tax the super-rich properly.

I'd forgotten the lyrics of this 1969 environmental song.

It all feels so relevant apart from the dates. They should be starting at 2025 and finishing 'one hundred years' from now to align with what's happened in the last 55 years.

This will be particularly interesting to spatial planners.

Doughnut Economics - providing society's needs within the planet's limits - should b the purpose of the English National Planning Policy Framework.

It isn't. Successive UK Governments have promoted GDP growth that fails on both objectives.
A thought provoking article that links #DoughnutEconomics to Strategic Spatial Planning and explores how this is done in Amsterdam.

Possibly best read from the end first (the practical description of Amsterdam) for spatial planners.

Doughnut Economics is 'growth agnostic'. Degrowth is one option.
A very interesting article that talks #degrowth, wellbeing, donut economics, strategy:
