A statement about the Peacehaven mosque attack from @cllremmaedwards.bsky.social on behalf of Bristol's Green Party Councillors:
Statement about Peacehaven mosque attack from Cllr Emma Edwards on behalf of Bristol's Green Party
Councillors
We are deeply upset to hear about the horrific firebomb attack on their mosque in Peacehaven this weekend and stand in solidarity with the Muslim community there. Also recognising that this affects all Muslim communities in the UK and here in Bristol, at a time when hate crime is on the rise.
This was not merely a "hate crime" - it was an act of terrorism.
Any attack targeting a place of worship and the innocent people within it is designed to instil fear, divide communities, and undermine the very values we hold dear in Britain.
The refusal by authorities to call this what it is — terrorism - reflects a dangerous double standard. When the victims are Muslim, the language changes, the outrage softens, and justice feels conditional. That must end.
Islamophobia is not an isolated prejudice; it is a threat to the fabric of our society. We must confront it with honesty, policy, and solidarity — not silence.
As Greens, we stand with all those who reject hate and work for peace, truth, and equality. No one should ever fear for their life while praying.

The Royals aren’t very good at ‘reading the room’ are they?

This is so good. Of course there are some people who vote reform who are entrenched in right wing ideology however there are also a lot who have just been sold a lie, just like Brexit. These conversations are so important.
zackpolanski.bsky.social
We all need to be having these conversations.
cllremmaedwards.bsky.social
To be honest, I didn’t walk out. I stayed and made a point of order to the Mayor to stop the offensive speaker. Which according to one email I received from a reform voter makes me comparable to Pol Pot. The right wing haas a totally normal perspective on things.

Steve Smith, a man who was so offended he only got one bean in his can of Heinz that it made international news, being oblivious to why Councillors might be offended by transphobic hate speech directly affecting their colleagues, and wanting to take a stand. www.foxnews.com/food-drink/m...

I did do the very typical British thing when it opened, which is have a coffee at the little coffee shop in the sunshine and say ‘ oooh it’s just like living in Barcelona’ 😆

Nowt plastic about our Zack.
zackpolanski.bsky.social
The Prime Minister can call me names - “plastic progressive”? (Nope, me neither!)

Meanwhile, I’m travelling across England and Wales, meeting people fired up and ready for change.

We’re going to turn this country around – and no one gets left behind.

Really pleased that deputy council leader @heathermackbristol.bsky.social was able to challenge the speakers on this divisive rhetoric and stand up for our trans colleagues. 💚🏳️‍⚧️💚
cllremmaedwards.bsky.social
An ugly show of transphobia in public forum this evening, spoiling what was otherwise a pretty constructive and collegiate full council. Trans and non-binary members of the council, and any trans non-binary members of the public who attend should not be subjected to such transphobic rhetoric.

There the five at the top, but I haven’t seen them get much use as of yet but hopefully that will changes people learn about them and then if there is demand we can ask for more to be added.

How can anyone be mad at this? is a little cut through road line with parked cars really better? I spoke to the coffee shop last week and they said their trade had doubled.
Photo looking up at the recently pedestrian Overton Road. It’s really busy with people sitting on benches and on tables outside the coffee shop and the pub. It’s a lovely day and people are having a smashing time.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

On the coach now heading back to Bristol from a day trip to Birmingham. Intrigued to find the city centre there largely paved over for full pedestrian use, and that they had tram services running there also. Result: no traffic congestion there AT ALL! ✨ Just wonderful! 😊

We’re working on it, Dennis 😉 (also have you checked out Overton Road in St Andrews yet?)

So The week before far right protests are planned in cities across the UK. The Labour Party decide to ramp up their anti/immigration rhetoric. No mention of protecting vulnerable Asylum seekers under threat from protesters. Just stoking division and cosplaying Reform. Slow handclap.
