And the smear campaign of trassi in this book had me, my husband and mother rolling our eyes.

We put it in the nasi goreng and the smell is strong but not stinky like the author wrote down.

Trigger warning: racist drawing.

We wanted to catalog my mothers recipes and she uses some old cookbooks published in 1959.

Me: Can you give me the one with the racist depiction of a Chinese person?

Fortunately authors moved on from using offensive images for their book covers.

Oriental Kitchen Secrets - instructions for Dutch housewives in preparing Chinese and Indonesian dishes by Yu Fei.

The book was published in 1959, in a time the use of offensive caricature were the norm in the western world.

People were ignorant to the pain this caused to Asians. Fortunately future publications of this book had a different cover printed.

Went into town for a bit of relaxing, reading and feeding of the inner cat. 🐈‍⬛

Today we went for all matcha snack and drink wise.

Iced mango matcha latte with coconut milk and a matcha cookie with white chocolate. The book title is Painting Cats. Curious, mindful, & free-spirited watercolors by Terry Ruuyan.

She told me about a nun who was in her care that suffered a stroke and only remembered the Indonesian language so they were still able to communicate with her when the Dutch language part was lost.

My mother invited my MIL & SIL for dinner at a place of their choice between Christmas and NYE and she would pay.

They want to refuse that my mother pays but they have not yet encountered a spicy 72y old Indonesian woman who will take not take no for an answer. 😂

It's 17C (62F) and I am already struggling with the cold. My joints hurts and I spend my time working wrapped up in a blanket, wearing thermo underwear.

My husband is amazed that I sleep under a winter duvet all year round, even in 30C (86F).

In my previous life I was a bear with thick fur.

I use FB only to stay in contact with the people who used to collect dolls and with whom I met up in person to share our hobby.

FB has become a pit of AI-trash and scare mongering. A bulletin board/forum for my friends would be a healthier option but will they use it?

I got my voter pass in, and I really don't like the anti-immigrant bandwagon the far-right parties are hopping on.

The housing shortage is not the immigrants fault but decades of liberal policy of dismantling the affordable housing sector and selling off our renters market to foreign investors...

Our government did not manage to build the housing they promised but instead banned foreign food from their departments for a week in order to make Dutch food populair.

For a coloniser that stole spice everywhere, they sure never used it to spice up their local grub. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Exhibit A:

Hutspot, a mash of carrots, onions and potatoes. When cooking the dish the smell is similar to the stomach contents left on the street by a drunken pub patron. Only gets soms flavour if you drown it in gravy. I do not like this dish, it has the character of a whale turd.

Ugh, you see them pop up in Amsterdam too and not even jogging. 🙄 Only immigrant ban I want to see are on American influencers to Amsterdam. Especially the ones that call themselves expats.
