Very disappointed about the lack of advocacy against this ban.

Zero consultation from Government with young people.

And e-safety commission keeps banging on about ‘human rights’ aligned.

Far from it.

Some bittersweet news for the government today. Reddit will comply with the ban, but it hasn’t ruled out a legal challenge.
Albanese says teen social media ban is already a 'success'. But it's still got a few hurdles

I’ve written an article about the consequences of using shame as a punishment tool. It doesn’t just wound the dignity of the person being shamed, it also erodes the capacity for compassion in the people doing the shaming.

Name and Shame Is Not Accountability
A few of you reached out after my last article about the way children and young people are forgotten in our conversations about violence.

Shame does not lead to accountability. It silences people, hardens them or drives behaviour underground. As we face growing social issues, it is worth asking why we are returning to a punishment we once recognised as a form of torture.

Parents often ask me why their teenager shuts down the moment they try to talk.
The answer is not what most people expect.

I just published a new blog: The Number One Communication Mistake Parents Make Without Realising It.

The Number One Communication Mistake Parents Make Without Realising It

Children often become invisible in conversations about family
violence. Their trauma is assumed, not explored. Their needs are acknowledged, but not met. Their voices are referenced, but never heard.

Whenever we talk about violence against women and children, the conversation is usually focused on the women, and rightly so.

If we want real change, we need to rethink how we educate young men. Shaming pushes them away. Excuses let them off the hook. The answer is a middle path built on connection, belonging, emotional literacy and accountability.

I've written an article about our deficit based approach to teaching Sex Education.
We don't put a strengths-based lens on Sex education, because of our own insecurities. Our focus is on risk management, rather than exploring intimacy and pleasure.

Is sexual education about sex, or is it just risk management?
Young women are consistently overrepresented in sexual abuse statistics, and the uncomfortable truth is that most perpetrators in these cases are young men.

A single young person’s experience can be powerful, but it can’t stand alone as the basis for program or policy design. Good practice sits in the balance between evidence and empathy. Data keeps us accountable; story keeps us human.

Avoiding conflict feels good in the short term. It keeps tempers calm and everyone smiling at the dinner table. But it’s an illusion. True harmony isn’t the absence of conflict, it’s learning to work through it respectfully.

Mentoring creates connection and belonging. For a young person, it might be the first time they feel an adult really listens to them. For an emerging leader, it may be the reassurance that they are not alone in figuring out their next career steps.

Why is it that DOGE is storming into Government buildings, demanding access to Government servers and sacking staff on the spot?

Meanwhile their responsibility is to “modernise federal technology”…… maybe because it’s constitutionally illegal.
