Flight to Belfast cancelled. Called the airline, the Belfast flights were full or cancelled for the next 3 days. Got a flight to Dublin instead. Overheard multiple other passengers saying what I was thinking; we just need to get to the right land mass then we can figure the rest out!

This from the British Library in response to October’s ransomware attack has made me a bit emotional: ‘The people responsible for this cyber-attack stand against everything that libraries represent: openness, empowerment, and access to knowledge’. Solidarity with everyone at the BL.

Thames Water has to go explain to parliament why it paid a huge internal dividend to the company that owns it and is going to jack up prices and still pump shit into the rivers
The UK is falling apart. I don’t think people outside realise how bad things have got since Brexit. Thames water says it needs to increase bills by *40%* above inflation because it can't pay back a £190 million loan due in April. If it doesn’t get that it won’t survive.

I have no idea why anyone is getting fussed about this. For anyone who reads, their written vocab is will be broader than their spoken one.
The phenomenon of smart people mispronouncing words and names simply because they haven’t heard them spoken before is well known. It’s called Calliope Syndrome

Why is there a need for a Digital Knowledge Act in the EU? Because as a new op-ed from communia points out, libraries & educational institutions encounter “significant barriers when trying to provide learning materials in digital form,” among other challenges. Learn more ⤵️
Together with Felix Reda we outlined our asks for a Digital Knowledge Act to enable & support knowledge institutions in Europe:

- no liability when acting in good faith
- fight unfair licensing
- no paywalls for publicly funded research
