There’s no logic here. If carrying out the projects might polarise society, surely cancelling them will have the same polarising effect? It becomes a matter of deciding what’s in the long-term public benefit.
Clearly, there are people MM doesn’t want to upset, and they certainly aren’t young people.

My only problem is why the taxpayer has to pay this out. If those assholes knowingly infringed the 1st Amendment and/or wilfully acted ultra vires they should be held personally liable for part or all of the damages.

It might also deter them from doing similar things in future.

There is a serious question as to how much the US growth is attributable to increasingly worrying AI investment.
andrewharbison1.bsky.social
They’re also investing in shares. The P/E of the S&P 500 is currently 31.5. The P/E of most low-risk “blue chip” shares lies between about 8 and 15. This implies that the S&P is grossly overvalued.

There is an obvious AI bubble, making tech stocks much riskier than they were 5 years ago.

So, investors are worried about government borrowing debasing currencies, and in response they’re investing in crypto, which isn’t backed by any assets at all.

It seems that many people in finance are over-paid, wildly over-confident and just plain thick.

‘The debasement trade’: is this what’s driving gold, bitcoin and shares to record highs?
Investors fear governments will not – or cannot – rein in borrowing so are putting their money elsewhere

I think the problem is that, with the destruction of so much capital, the post-burst shakeout will take out a lot more than AI firms.

I think there’s a reasonable chance such a blowout would collapse crypto too, because a lot of people are going to have to get liquid very quickly.

You can joke about Pam Bondi’s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but I’m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. — This should shake everyone to their core.

Henceforth the red robes will only be worn as an away kit when the Canadian Supreme Court is playing the US one.

Tragic news from Canada where the Canadian Supreme Court has gone from the official dress on the left to the one on the right
Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in bright red wooly gowns, with a beige trim. It looks sort of like a Santa robe The Canadian Supreme court. Everyone is dressed in black gowns with a bright white kravat, and two thin red vertical lines on the side of the robe

Couple moved in next door. Old bloke lived there before had a beautiful garden. He spent every day in it. New guy ripped out everything & put fake grass in. So I've planted trees next to the boundary that will fill his lawn with dead leaves in the autumn. This one's for you Alf

It’s about what I expected, but much quicker than I expected. I was expecting something along the lines of Germany ‘33 but Trumps goons have been moving a lot faster.

I think the main hope for the US is, astonishingly, a major recession with the AI (and possibly Crypto) bubbles blowing out.

I referred accurately to the article then quoted from it. You’re the one who doesn’t accept reality if it doesn’t coincide with your bigotry.

Are you sure you’re on the right side? You’d be a great fit for MAGA.

Let’s face it - you think Palestinians are sub-humans and deserve what they get. You’re opposed to genocide, just as long as it’s not your “side” doing it, in which case it’s not genocide anyway.

You think special rules apply to you, which let you do what you like. In other words, you’re a bigot.
andrewharbison1.bsky.social
“Let’s say the mockery was part of the verbal and psychological violence they always carried out”

But there’s no use in arguing with a religious bigot. My dad, who had to live with that kind of shit in Northern Ireland, always said the worst bigots were the ones who claimed not to be.
andrewharbison1.bsky.social
Oh she was only psychologically abused.

That makes it OK.
