Bookish, treeish, peripatetic, frequently salt water adjacent.
Morning walk, the uninjured ankle is cranky about the world. The injured ankle is also cranky. I’m just grateful a break in the rain.

I have done the slightly unthinkable and joined a gym. To quote Chappell Roan, “my god, what have [I] done?”

But creaky, cranky ankle and sleet makes me want low impact exercise that isn’t walking outside. Maybe I’ll decide I like lifting? Maybe I’ll get caught up with my podcast queue?

That villainous treason
Should EVER be forgot. 😡

Me too, Frog. Me too.

I twisted my ankle while I was out for a walk, and am irritably wondering if I’m about to join a gym so I can work off all of my excess jittery energy and SAD (I’m a very jittery, intermittently weepy paradox) in a lower impact way than running in circles around the neighborhood.

Something lovely for the weekend!

Beautiful blue glass beads from the late Bronze Age 💙

Ploughed up by a farmer in Denmark in 1885, analysis shows the beads were made in Mesopotamia, pointing to long-distance trade in luxury goods some 3,000 years ago.

As of 12/24/25, USPS changed policy on when they postmark mail. Mail dropped off is no longer guaranteed a same-day postmark. Tax returns & other time-sensitive items are now stamped when they reach a regional processing center, which may be days later. Plan deadlines accordingly to avoid penalties.

2.5 miles this morning. I’m very aware of the very necessary slack of the last two months. I’m glad I can once again run away from the noise of my busy brain and into the quiet meditative flow of one foot in front of the other.

Hear! Hear!
I’m just sayin’ do we really need to roll into a new year?

Maybe just take a beat. Hit pause. We can stay in Cheese season for a few months.

Merry Christmas to those of us who celebrate. And for all of us peace on earth and goodwill (we may have to build it ourselves).

1.75 miles of real slog. None of the pictures I took pleased me, so instead behold the liquor store with the dinosaurs—a local landmark for Mr. Quince and me.

A good if short run, my body is beginning to demonstrate that it sort of remembers how to move. On the walk home, I was belting out the Coventry Carol, and realized only after that someone was walking close behind me on the foot path. Yes, Herod verse included. It suits the times.

May anyone who voted for this never know a meal without saliva in the ingredients again.
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

@tkingfisher.com’s Snake-Eater is an absolute delight. The love of the landscape illuminates a horror tinged fantasy, and grounds the eccentric community that makes the heroine a home. The next post has a major structural spoiler, so proceed at your own risk.

1.75 miles. 40F and raining? Definitely running in shorts weather. Please admire this very persistent rose with me. (I was Britten-pilled at a young age and have the setting of “There Is No Rose of Such Virture” from Ceremony of Carols stuck in my head.)
