Not main point but very revealing that Laura Kuenssberg keeps on talking about the "child benefit cap" in *tax credits* (it's Universal Credit, and has been for most claimants for some time).

Reflects both very poor briefing *and* her complete ignorance of the topics she asks questions about..

Parliament, not the Supreme Court should have decided today. I've written about why that's so problematic and why I fear today's judgment will be used to further delegitimise trans people, even though that is not what the Court intends.

🚨 Not an April Fools joke: Household bills are going up by more than inflation (2.8%), while social security support rises by JUST 1.7%.

People are already struggling. More people will be at risk of needing a food bank.

It doesn’t have to be this way. The government CAN change this. #AwfulApril

Economic inequality has grown so high that the richest 10% of the US now buys half of what we all produce. Because price sensitivity goes down as income grows, high inequality is increasing the costs of living. To solve this, we need to tax wealth and do universal basic income to boost the lower 90%

The UK has run a current surplus only once in the past 20 years.

Instead, the Government is targeting a forecast surplus, which is a much more common (and lax) fiscal target.

After the show, Camilla Tominey said she “had fun”. It seems like this is just a game for some members of the commentariat.

4.3 million children are in poverty

UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢

Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in part due to social security policies 1/5

The UK's record on child poverty is pretty terrible.

Based on before-housing-cost thresholds, only Greece had worse rates among European countries in 2018.
