I went to see David Icke out of morbid curiosity when I was at university. Hoo—and furthermore—boy

The photography in this article really feels like The Times are deliberately setting these people up for ridicule. (You can read it without visiting The Times here archive.ph/KZZC1)
An article from The Times: "Meet the young Tories dreaming of a bright blue future". Featuring bizarre portraits of Charles Amos, Rhys Benjamin and Daniel Campbell.

Reading Tony Benn’s diaries. Good stuff. In 1976 Benn asks Harold Wilson figuratively “What should we do if you’re run over by a bus?” and Wilson replies “Find out who was driving the bus”

Huh? Was it really? That’s - mad

I was stress-drinking with the cat last night - he had some nice catnip tea I brewed him and I was polishing off some Irish whiskey. I went to get him a fresh shot and I sat down and he assumed this position. He looks like a fucking noir detective at a bar after a dame done did him wrong.

And me

Genuinely outstanding news, even if this news story can apparently only report on it by cramming it full of every objection imaginable. People should be able to drink as late as they please. And by 'people' I mean me.

Everybody has to be on a “journey”.

I see that Ms Badenoch wants young people to be able to fulfil their potential, but not - presumably - if they aspire to a higher education in the humanities.

What’s Spotify worth without any human-made music on it?

What’s Netflix or Amazon or Apple worth without anything to watch on it?

Arts degrees are only “worthless” because tech cunts revalued the highly desirable product of freelance artists at close to zero, cos it made running the digital supply pipes look cheaper on the spreadsheets. Pay properly for the arts, and see how worthless artists are.

No, they’re handing over to Reform whose view is that universities should be razed to the ground.

Heseltine was the first Tory MP to publicly criticise Enoch Powell after Rivers of Blood in 1968. Let him cook

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

I imagine Robert Jenrick is currently on his way to places like Plymouth and Chelmsford to complain that there are too many white faces and they are insufficiently diverse

Badenoch wants to eliminate ‘rip off degrees’ like English. The usual philistine crap that a degree is just about work. The mission to create the stupidest nation on earth. And counterproductive. Young people will work for years. They’ll retrain endlessly. A degree can help them learn how to learn

My sociology degree led to 30 years in public service as a Prison Governor. I now use that, and my English Masters, in writing tenders on behalf of clients bidding for government contracts. Nice to know that my life-choices have caused me to be such a drain on public resources.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.
Badenoch: Curb students taking 'rip-off' degrees such as English
The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut
cog1.bsky.social
She thinks that reading and thinking about what you have read constitutes a rip-off.

Perhaps Ms Badenoch would like to return her collection of Terry Pratchett books, because she clearly hasn’t read them. I’m sure we can find a decent home for them.

It’s all that it merits. I would not waste the steam of my piss on that one, let alone a more considered think piece.
