No. The Thing is a movie about a bunch of people who all distrust and hate each other trapped in one building as the tension between them slowly builds until it reaches a breaking point. It's a Thanksgiving movie.

breaking my promise i have more to say. this "new" version of this archetype sometimes feels worse because it lets people who think of themselves as progressive continue to enjoy transmisogynistic writing.
mikhail is somewhat emblematic of most modern successors to the trap archetpye in that more often than not the only difference is that the most egregious elements have been toned down but the motivating transmisogyny is still present
mtefil doesnt have any explicitly directly cruel jokes with mikhail but still views him as vapid and self obsessed in a way that doesnt really feel less transmisogynistic than your classic trap joke characters.

last thing ill say about mtefil until next chapter i promise, but baba yaga's second demand of putting women in positions of power without otherwise changing those structures being framed as her taking things too far is fucking laughable right

not to continue ranting about mtefil but god mikhail is such a nothing character. everyone else in the church finds him annoying at best, but its never directly tied to his gender presentation in a way that could be narratively interesting
not only is mikhail unscathed by the church, he even dismisses daniel saying leah would be better as grand priest than mikhail based on ability because women cant be priests. the crossdressing character is the voice of the church's misogyny
the church which, again, has been repeatedly shown to be abusive to children, misogynistic, and homophobic. mikhail is seemingly unharmed by any of that. it feels like such a missed opportunity to not do anything their
