Seattle’s human population is growing fast, but its car population has stalled out. Between 2017 and 2023, Seattle added 35,000 households, but just 3,300 cars, new Census data has revealed — in news that is music to urbanists' ears.
Seattle's Human Population Is Up, But Its Car Population Isn't — Streetsblog USA
Urbanists have long been making that case that growth in Seattle is the most climate-friendly and easiest to support with transit and infrastructure. And it's happening.

Friend: OMG, who are you texting?

Me: (flustered) What? Nobody.

Friend: Dude, you lit up the second you saw that text. Do you have a crush?

Me: What!? No. Ok, maybe…

Foraged and four-edged. Because in this area, pie are squared!

Passerby: “Are you guys waiting for the fireworks?”

A dozen of us having a picnic in unison: “Yeah!”

Passerby: “Can you see them from here.”

Us (truthfully and, again, in unison): “Oh, no! Definitely not.”

Happy proud month, my fellow queers (and allies who vote like it at all levels). From @jbyoder.org and me. Spiciest content you can expect from this account, so lap it up.

For any plant nerds, queer folks in STEM, or general @jbyoder.org fans, I highly encourage you to check out his work that led to this award. I’m incredibly proud that he is not only a brilliant scientist, but committed to opening doors for others who might not have had a seat at the table.
Don’t miss Jeremy Yoder’s IDEA Award Talk in-person or online Friday June 20 at 7 PM Eastern: “No data speaks for itself — but with data, we can speak for ourselves.” In person and live-streamed for all #Evol2025 registrants!

Who says mass transit is just for cities?
Have been spending this apocalyptic news week on a New England vacation that will conclude with the Pirates of Penzance revival in New York City tomorrow night and which more or less opened with a ride up the highest mountain in the region on a cog railway

It’s the very attractive, intelligent, and hardworking @jbyoder.org’s birthday today. Everyone should tell him how wonderful he is always, but doubly so today.

The October federal holiday has been a federal holiday the whole time. Celebrated all my life with such sacred tidings as “Why aren’t you at work?” and “Wait, it’s a holiday? Is it Veterans Day already?”
Well, you’ll be happy to know, Christopher is going to make a major comeback

King County, we’ve got an election running until Tuesday and you should vote! It’s a weird little measure that probably saves a bit of money. It’s silly we need to vote, but it’s important that you cast a ballot (yes or no) or else politicians will try to hide BIG things in weird little elections.

King County voters just got a ballot asking them to approve (or dismantle) the existing fingerprinting system. Without it, every jurisdiction would have to pay for their own separate system. This 2023 report details what fingerprints are used for. cdn.kingcounty.gov/-/media/king...

From @publicola.bsky.social — I have to say, evaluating state laws for possible abuse by the *Seattle* city council isn’t something I thought I would have to worry about in my work in #waleg, but here we are.

Congratulations to Sen. Cory Booker for achieving every lawyer’s dream: hearing the sound of one’s own voice for 24 continuous hours.

But actually impressive work.
