It's a cruel irony that there's an unprecedented amount of live football at the exact time when Spurs are at their most unwatchable.

It's one of the lesser-discussed drawbacks of this insanely-congested football calendar that a goal like Micky VDV's should feel like something we can luxuriate in for days and weeks to come, not shunted out of focus by the relentless churn of Very Important Games Happening All The Time.

Well then.
I'm not sure any of the component parts of that team fit together well at all. Hunkering down for 90 minutes of Unwatchable Stodge with possibly a Very Valuable Point at the end of it. COYS.

Ange Postecoglou spends more energy, time and resources on the defence of his reputation than he does on the defence of his Actual Football Team.
October 17, 2025 at 2:38 PM
The very nature of football fandom is that we're never *truly* fulfilled, as the relentless churn of fixtures means we're only ever 3 days away from having our perspective violently altered, fleeting joy snatched away, and it's hard to stay completely present with something that's ...

If Man United had been brave enough to sack Erik ten Hag after an apocalyptically-bad first 2 games in the league, they wouldn't have been able to ruin Ruben Amorim's life by hiring him as he wouldn't have been born yet.

What's meant for you won't pass you by
Tottenham have completed the signing of Xavi Simons.

He will help replace the gap left by Son Heung-min in terms of marketability at Tottenham — but will provide much more value on the pitch.

I think Newcastle have played a horrible hand as well as they could've done - taking the high road without being sanctimonious - but it makes you wonder if his behaviour is in any way off-putting to that self-professed Family Club, Liverpool?
Alexander Isak might just have made things worse for everybody. Because more than ever, more than before, Newcastle United insist he is going nowhere. And where would that leave him, aside from alone?

@georgecaulkin.bsky.social on Isak publicly demanding to leave Newcastle — and the club saying no.
Alexander Isak’s statement has set fire to Newcastle – drawing fury but little sign of success
Isak's public demand to leave might just have made things worse for everybody, including himself

I'm feeling upbeat, if cautious, about playing such a youthful team. At least stylistically, it looks better balanced than having a Bentancur/Palhinha base, although you'd be concerned it lacks a bit of naus for a PL fixture. In Thomas We Trust.

Woe betide me to criticise a Club outside the elite from being ambitious, but for a Club that was at the razor's edge of PSR a year or two ago, Forest aren't half throwing money around

Destination X might just be the most Y2K-coded show I've ever seen. I know for certain all of these people watched Fame Academy, even if they weren't born at that point.

Sonny really lived every Spurs fan's platonic ideal of a player - breathlessly skilful, unwaveringly dedicated, and a remarkable consistency that defied the ebbs and flows of form and favour. And to top it all, he got to lift the biggest trophy of most of our lifetimes, and ride off into the sunset.
August 7, 2025 at 5:11 AM
I think there's a fair bank of evidence even just from the last week that Forest are the biggest dickheads in the league. A league that contains CHELSEA.
Steve Parish has suggested that Nottingham Forest played a significant role in Crystal Palace being denied entry to next season’s Europa League.

🚨🇲🇨 AS Monaco are open to selling Breel Donald Embolo this summer after pact made one year ago. Understand Besiktas almost got deal done earlier this window for €15m fee, but the player rejected. Monaco insist on €15m fee, AC Milan also aware. 🎥🇮🇹 https://youtu.be/bHscKnsaBU0

This is the most dignified I've ever seen Troopz look.
Meet this Cristiano Ronaldo superfan, who has a shirt which is made up from all of the clubs the Portuguese striker has played for.

Yes, all of the clubs. And Portugal.

Yep, I was thinking this about the Saudi Pro League but the CWC is an even better demonstration: sport doesn't inherently matter. It only matters if people decide it does, and in spite of everything, those people are not the rich who run the sport, but the masses who watch it.
sports are a very weird communal activity with no internal logic besides our feelings. it takes a kind of collective effort, typically unconscious and unplanned, but at least plausibly directed from above, to attach meaning to sports and create feeling

FIFA skipped that step entirely, here we are

Italy continually finding ways not to qualify for the World Cup is one of the best long-running storylines in International Football
“Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football, the shirt is like his second skin."

Gennaro Gattuso is the new head coach of Italy’s men's national team.

The former midfielder earned over 70 Italy caps between 2000 and 2010 and was part of the Azzurri's World Cup-winning squad in 2006.
Gennaro Gattuso appointed new Italy head coach following Luciano Spalletti dismissal
Italy have confirmed Gattuso's appointment and the 47-year-old will be officially presented on June 19.
