Great works of @rustenlab.bsky.social and @Basler lab independently showing how premalignant cells can exploit Toll-NF-κB signaling, in concert with oncogenic Ras, to enable unchecked growth #Drosophila Papers: plos.io/4jqpmUh and plos.io/3RGWESS Primer: plos.io/3GyUeU0

#InnateImmunity is a crucial surveillance framework. However, @colombani-lab.bsky.social explores 2 @plosbiology.org studies which show that pre-malignant cells can exploit these regulatory circuits to enable unchecked #cancer growth 🧪 Papers: plos.io/4jqpmUh plos.io/3RGWESS Primer: plos.io/3GyUeU0
Schematics Top: While Toll-NF-κB pathway activation alone inhibits differentiation, trapping cells in a progenitor-like state, it also increases cell death rates leading to an overall reduction in tissue size. Bottom: In the presence of oncogenic RasV12, these progenitor-like cells become refractory to cell death, which drives tumor growth. Additionally, NF-κB/Dorsal activates JNK signaling and enhances the invasiveness of polarity-deficient RasV12/scrib−/− tumors.
