Today I had a five-yearly health check at the GP surgery. After weighing and heighing me, a nurse asked how much time I habitually spend weekly on football, cycling, walking, childcare and chores. She didn't ask how much I dedicate to reading.

Bit of a beige boast, but I've had a fairly relaxed Christmas with no rushing around, long drives, family drama. Not much of a 'flex' but important to acknowledge good shit happen - or the absence of bad shit happening.

Last night I watched East of Ipswich, a film inspired by Michael Palin's dreary teenage holidays. It was exceptionally evocative of dreary teenage holidays! His drab parents dragging him to visit churches. Very funny film, though.

Nicely busy Christmas eve, not hectic. Counting my blessings that I, a 40-year-old bloke, got to deliver presents to and enjoy the company of my grandparents, 90 and 91, and my parents, 66 and 65. Also chilled with our little girl, mucking about, watching The Snowman and Mog. Lucky bastard, me.
