there's a neo nazi that lives across from KPL and the WRPS station, flying a symbol of hate. And has been for 15 months. Positivity!

Not enough attention paid to the very direct right wing pipeline Substack promotes. Enough that Platformer and Casey Newton elected to switch to another service rather than support a platform that pushes and promotes hard right, conspiracy, and neo Nazi content www.platformer.news/why-platform...
Why Platformer is leaving Substack
We’ve seen this movie before — and we won’t stick around to watch it play out

What I do not understand is why unelected progressives do not directly call this behaviour out as suffocating free speech, safety and representation at the level where those same folks demand we speak up.

A bit late for that after people have been exposed to unrelenting harm for years

Of course the obvious reason for this is that an attempt was made to do this and it resulted in a lawsuit, violence and harassment targeting a school board trustee. Nobody seems to want to try now.

It seems an avoidance choice, not a lack of knowledge.

we continue to envision radicalization seeds being planted IN our community from afar, while the evidence suggests we have our own local ecology that will take basic narratives and twist them through our institutions that have been unable to identify hate speech from the beginning.

the retention of screenshots, chat logs, photos, conversations, posts etc etc that have been distributed to allies and in particular, academics, that cover 2019-2025 in Waterloo Region reveal how radicalization occurs at a local level, where the soft spots exist and get exploited.

I do believe you can do both.

I do believe you can retain receipts and organize information, provide it to academics that build a local ecology of radicalization in your community.

I believe it because I do it and have done it. Others can use their positions to advocate and raise awareness anytime

to take them on, except for the staff at WRDSB, trustees and parents who are continuously attacked, vilified and harmed.

we have left the work to vulnerable queer youth, who have already shown their power.

we have ignored the voices of Black women that have called this out and been attacked.

EMPOWR is a white nationalist front attacking the legitimacy of the local education system in Waterloo Region and has been operating under the same umbrella of organized hate since at least 2021, but goes back to Lindsay Sheppard in 2017.

Nobody in this community of almost 600,000 has bothered...

it hasn't helped. predicting when and how a lawsuit will occur, months in advance, with regard to our local Parental Involvement Committee, didn't cause anyone to speak up or identify that issue (except those on the PIC and anonymous parents ; )

the cost is the safety of our education spaces.

I say that as someone who has started newsrooms from scratch sometimes with two people - if you’re doing your job correctly you will need a lawyer because the first thing rich people do when you write something they don’t like is threaten you legally. It’s cheap for them and expensive for you
