Turning a rule meant to protect SNAP beneficiaries from price gouging into an excuse to punish the poor is genuinely evil in a way that’s extreme even for these monsters.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

say what you will about kids today being spoiled or whatever, but we’re pulling 11 mbps on the powerline ethernet connection for my son’s PC, and told me not to try a WiFi bridge instead because it’s fine
