This!

Federal judges have done their best to push back, but Democratic representatives in Congress and elsewhere have not. Where is the action? Where is the utilization of the few checks and balances that do exist? Look who's not acting and ask why.

No lies spotted.

In the nonprofit space, this has been especially disheartening. I hope leaders take note.

Absolutely some are, and some are not. Did some companies adopt D.E.I. and exploit it, use it as a part of their brand, and then the minute they were told to get rid of it, they got rid of it without thinking twice? That’s for sure. Did I see D.E.I. programs function in meaningful ways? When done well, they were just meritocracy programs. That’s a good D.E.I. program. It’s a program to make sure that the invisible program of favoritism and bias was being checked. This is not an administration that’s a fan of meritocracy. Let’s say you’re the C.E.O. and you have the administration saying, “You’ll get rid of this or you’ll lose every contract that touches the government, any federal or state dollars,” and you know that means that you’ll need to lay off 35,000 people — I don’t know that people are choosing to get rid of their D.E.I. programs. I would be comfortable enough to say that any leader who folds on something that’s good for their people, and effective, and helps make their people feel more connected and seen and also drives performance, which is a leader’s job, is a pretty terrible leader.

If we coordinated to all bang pots and pans at our windows every day at 7 p.m. in praise of healthcare workers, we can coordinate to all scream NO MORE #ICE every day at 7 p.m. for the sake of our immigrant neighbors, yeah?

A horrifying statement published today by the Editorial Committee of the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency.

"Without immediate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die"

Translation from French to English by @cnorristrent.bsky.social:
Without immediate intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die
July 21, 2025

AFP has been working with 1 writer, 3 photographers and 6 videographers, all freelance, in the Gaza Strip since its staff journalists left in 2024.

Along with a few others, they are now the only ones left to report what is happening in the Gaza Strip. The international press has been banned from entering the territory for nearly two years.

We refuse to watch them die.

One of them, Bashar, has been working with AFP since 2010, first as a fixer, then freelance photographer, and since 2024, as lead photographer. On July 19th he managed to post a message on Facebook: “I no longer have the strength to work for the media. My body is thin and I can’t work anymore.”

Bashar, 30, works & lives in the same conditions as all Gazans, moving from one refugee camp to another under Israeli bombings. For > a year he’s lived in utter destitution, working at extreme risk to his life. Hygiene is a major issue for him, with recurring bouts of severe intestinal illness.

Since Feb, Bashar’s been living in the ruins of his home in Gaza City with his mother, 4 brothers & sisters and the family of one of his brothers. Their house is devoid of any furnishings, except a few cushions. On Sunday morning, he reported that one of his brothers had “fallen, due to hunger.”

Even though these journalists receive a monthly salary from AFP, it’s no longer enough to buy food, or they have to pay completely exorbitant prices. The banking system has collapsed, and those who exchange money via online bank accounts charge a commission of up to 40%.

AFP no longer has the ability to provide them with a vehicle and there is not enough fuel to allow these journalists to travel for their reporting. Driving a car means becoming a target for Israeli airstrikes. AFP reporters therefore travel on foot or by donkey cart. (alt txt continued in next post)

As Jews, we must be able to identify genocide when we see it. It's happened to us and it could again. This is why I'm so concerned that many do not see Israel's actions as genocidal. If the roles were reversed and we were in #Gaza now, you wouldn't call it genocide? If that's the case, we're doomed.

Nerdy sidenote but I didn't realize @theactionnetwork.bsky.social was this big in the UK! I'm American and work with organizers here and I constantly recommend it for powerful tools at a fair price. Because these are movements, not businesses. I'm happy to see it.

New political party in the UK! Seems like the time is now in the US... Obviously it's been decades too long of supporting the Democratic Party, time for something else for any of these politicians who claim to have integrity, now or never, not that I believe in politicians, but still💥

Every human should see wild monkeys at least once.

For the same reason I think every dog should get to see wolves in the wild (safely) at least once in their life. An opportunity to put two and two together.

Tbh it's kind of gaslighting if we don't show them wolves. They deserve to know the truth.

This is a holocaust.

As a Jew, I can't tell the difference between Israelis and Nazis at this point.

As an American with free speech, I shouldn't be afraid to say this. But I am.

I speak on behalf of OUR shared ancestors. Listen to us. Listen to scholars, peacemakers, and the rest of the world.

This is one of the most sick, twisted, depraved massacres yet. Israel fired tank shells into a crowd of starving people waiting for food, killing over 50. They're not even denying it.

The footage of #ICE at immigration courts in #NYC jumping people IN PLAIN CLOTHES and kidnapping them is chilling. WE NEED TO ALLOW VIRTUAL HEARINGS. These places are unconscionable traps now.

I am scared, as a citizen, for myself. Who is next? #NYCMayor This is not a sanctuary city. It can be.
